The following readings define demoralization and provide important facts for hospital social workers

Gabel (2011 how organizational and environmental stressors can cause demoralization. 

Townsend (2018) provides a detailed description of the characteristics of demoralization

Elder et al. (2020) examines workforce demoralization in an acute health care setting and discusses factors and stressors impacting its occurrence

Behan (2019) describes the occurrence of demoralization in a patient and offers specific recommendations for treatment.

Workplace stressors can increase demoralization risk. Examples include: diminished funding, personnel reductions, and administrative or organizational burdens that hinder patient care.
